Manchester, May 2008 - Champions League Final Celebrations
In light of the small matter of the forthcoming Champions League Final at Wembley tomorrow between Manchester United and Barcelona, I felt I needed a little flashback. The last time we won this prestigious trophy was in Moscow in 2008. The Manchester United Supporters Trust staged several screenings around Manchester and I was lucky enough to be at the one at Sam Platt's with Sky, ITV, AP, and just about every other news network you can think of, just over the road from Old Trafford. The atmosphere that evening was so charged, you could touch it. If you'd been able to bottle it, you'd be a rich man. It was a long and very fraught night but when John Terry missed his penalty it seemed that the whole of Manchester went completely bananas (well the red half anyway). So here's hoping we can achieve a similar result tomorrow night. I doubt I'll be able to get too many decent images as this time I've actually managed to get a ticket for the game so I'm heading down to London tomorrow afternoon - feeling extremely apprehensive already. Anyway these are some of images I shot that fateful night during the game at Sam Platt's and of the celebrations outside Old Trafford.
Here's to European Cup number 4...... PS. The smart cookies amongst you will have noted that the soundtrack of the occasion doesn't tally with the images. Yes yes I know its from Barcelona in '99, but I couldn't find a suitable soundtrack for Moscow 2008. If you find one, let me know and I'll re-do it.......
